Treatment Blocks
(no course prerequisite, for acupunturists)

One of the richest resources of the 5 element acupuncture tradition is the use of Treatment Block protocols such as Aggressive Energy, Husband/Wife Imbalance, Exit/Entry blocks, Possession, and many more.

A Treatment Block is, essentially, a system-not-responding-to-stimulus condition causing the client to be either fully or partially unresponsive to ordinary treatment methods.  Learning how to recognize the presence of these treatment blocks in your clients, and knowing how to clear them effectively, can frequently produce dramatic results in otherwise difficult cases.

This seminar offers an overview of 5 element treatment methodology, and an in-depth exploration of the various treatment block protocols.  This seminar is a treasure trove of practical insights for TCM practitioners.  For 5 element practitioners, it is an exploration of the energetic significance of the various treatment block protocols.  This allows us to support clients in the deeper issues which may be giving rise to these blocks.

Eastern and Western Perspectives on Gender
with Thea Elijah and  Rene Goris
SATURDAY 2:30-6:30, SUNDAY  9:00-5:00
May 16-17
New York City, TCM World Foundation

What is a man?  What is a woman?  How much of our understanding of
theseconcepts is based on the reality of our being, and how much is based on cultural roles which have become embodied-- often to our detriment and discomfort?  All of us have been taught different things about being a man or a woman, some spoken and some unspoken. Our feeling that we do not live up to these images can be a cause of alienation from others of our own gender.  Just so, the prevalence of gender roles defining our relationships with the opposite gender can keep us from "being ourselves" together as fellow humans.

Using insights gained from a comparison of Eastern and Western perspectives, and grounded firmly in the first-hand experience of our own bodies, we can return to a state of being whole as a human, and from this place explore what it might mean to be male or female, separately andtogether.

Medicine Without Form
April 18th & 19th, 2009
Herndon, VA

What modern science dismisses as the Placebo Effect is actually a practical, teachable set of skill which anyone can learn.  This "inner aspect" of medicine has always been considered an essential part of any traditional healing modality, worldwide, until modern times.  Because of this, you are potentially your most powerful healing tool/asset.  The ability to connect with others from the Healing Presence within yourself allows others to connect with the source of healing in themselves.  This workshop is designed to teach reliable methods of accessing the Healing Connection with anyone.  The skills taught will also be fully applicable to "healing" situations outside of formal health care contexts, including family life, classrooms, activism for social change, and work within organizational structures.  All that is required of the student is sincerity.

Cancer

Every illness has a transformation of virtue, and cancer is no exception. Cancer is a water/wood illness that is characterized by growth that has gone awry and and refuses to die—even at the expense of the body’s own health and integrity.  Its virtue is the capacity for healthy mutation—the ability to grow beyond our former selves, and the willingness to ‘die’ in order to survive, rather than sacrifice holism. The American mind-set is to "kill the enemy," no matter what the impact on the host organism. An ecological approach to healing does not harm the body or the environment.   An ecological response to illness is the essence of treatment in Chinese medicine.

America as a whole faces significant medical, political and ecological issues that parallel the prevalence of cancer.  This workshop address the real issues behind our need to “win” every battle, and why the "war against cancer"  is an opportunity to see our collective pathology, and to choose an alternate approach to disease that does not treat the illness as an enemy, but as a teacher.

IN DEEP WATERS:  Transforming Fear to Wisdom
We experience fear in situations of critical importance to us, situations where even small matters may have great impact.  Fear is a call to attention--it indicates and maintains a sense of urgency in our response to circumstances.

At the same time, fear may be exactly what keeps us from responding with the level of calm, clarity and confidence that the situations we face demand.  Fear can be debilitating, leaving us feeling helpless at exactly the moments when we most perceive the need for decisive action.  On a chronic level, fear can keep us from "sinking in" to the quieter places inside of us, where the unique power and wisdom that belongs to us alone lies waiting to be discovered. Join us for a powerful experiential workshop.

Focus on the Metal Element

Metal is frequently the least well understood of the five elements. Its essence is the direct experience of beauty, whether in the flawless diamond and perfect rose, or better yet in the simple harmonious graces of every day life. A healthy Metal element allows us to be rigorous about the moment by moment embodiment of our deepest values, yet be gracious and natural in our dealings with each other. Metal is also the element of animal instinct and bodily ease; are we comfortable with our own bodies and animal nature as an expression of Heaven? This workshop is designed to provide the skills and insights necessary to partake of the experience of the Metal element as the fullest possible revelation of the deep worth of our lives, with and without formality.

PHONE CLASS

Saturday, February 6th
2:30pm - 4:45pm

XI CLEFT POINTS
2:30pm - 4:45pm

Xi clefts are also called Accumulation points.  They represent a “pocket” or cleft on the meridian where energy can gather.  Because of this, they can be needled to clear an accumulation (like a backlog of work piled on the desk of a particular Official).
The xi cleft is also a place of health accumulation; it can be needled to provide an energetic tide-me-over when an Official is temporarily very deficient (like an emergency cash stash to help you pay rent due TODAY when your paycheck isn’t coming until tomorrow).  Xi clefts are often considered to be ideal points for addressing acute conditions because of both of these functions.
We will look at the nature of xi cleft points in general, and then speak at least briefly about each of the xi cleft points on the 12 primary meridians. Point names and alternate point names will be considered for their associated meanings.  Abundant use of metaphor, drama and energetic transmission will create an opportunity for learning that will engage the minds, hearts and bodies of the participants.

$40 for Xi Clefts Phone class only (2 CEU points)

$55 for both the Xi  Clefts Phone class and a copy of the recording
